Seminar "University Rankings in the World and Requirements for Vietnam Universities"
University evaluation and ranking is an ongoing trend in countries around the world, with the main purpose stemming from the need to improve the quality and transparency of information of higher education institutions in the context of a competitive and rapidly changing world. State management agencies often only play the role of accrediting and classifying higher education institutions, while university rankings are mostly conducted by independent organizations. Among these are four ranking systems: Times Higher Education (THE) of Times Magazine, Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of Shanghai Jiaotong University, QS Word University Ranking of Quacquarelli Symands, and Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities of Cybermetrics Laboratories.

In Vietnam, the evaluation and ranking of universities are stipulated in legal documents, originally mentioned in the Government's Decree No. 73/2015 / ND-CP. issued on September 8, 2015 "Regulations on Stratification Standards, Ranking Frameworks and Higher Education Ranking Standards".

The rankings are aimed at many different audiences. For the government, they can serve as a reference source in planning higher education policies. For students and parents, they can serve as a useful reference to compare higher education institutions, before going into the selection of appropriate schools for competencies and interests. For higher education institutions themselves, the rankings can be considered as a lens to help schools re-evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in relation to other institutions, thereby contributing to enhance transparency, further improve capacity towards approaching international standards.
The seminar "University rankings in the world and requirements for Vietnam universities" revolves around the main contents including: The introduction of university rankings; Motivation to participate in the university rankings: state, society and universities; Two types of university rankings: rankings and ratings; Introducing some of the current global rankings: Shanghai Jiaotong, Webometrics, THE and QS; University ranking in Vietnam in recent years; Vietnamese universities preparation for the ranking.

The seminar was organized with the goal of improving the quality of education, strengthening international integration capacity, and at the same time letting the University proactively prepare the necessary conditions and resources to gradually participate in the domestic and international university rankings. This is also a scientific forum for departments and units in the University to gain thinking, access to science and prepare necessary conditions and resources on university rankings.
