Vietnam Annual Economic and Trade Report 2019 centers on trade protectionism and impacts on goods exports in Vietnam on a comprehensive and selective database of 2018 and the development trends, domestic and international context which affects the economic and trade situation of Viet Nam. The Report provides an exact and realistic overview and identities of the economic and trade development in Vietnam as well as foundation for prospects in the coming years.

On behalf of the research group, A/Prof. Dr. Ha Van Su – Dean of Faculty of Economics-Law presented the main content of Vietnam Annual Economic and Trade Report 2019 on Trade Protectionism and Impacts on Goods Exports in Viet Nam. Accordingly, he put up the issues of trade protectionism and its impacts on goods exports in Vietnam in the context of trade integration, global economic prospects in 2019 and the current US – China trade war.

Vietnam Annual Economic and Trade Report 2019 includes 6 chapters.
Chapter 1, “Overview on global economic context in 2018” summarizes the major economic trends in 2018, states the global goods trade growth indices, foreign direct investments and changes in the US economic policies.
Chapter 2, “Review on macro – economic situation in Viet Nam” presents the economic growth; consumer price index, macro – balances, the labor market in Vietnam in the period of 2018-2019, the international economic integration and fiscal and monetary policies.
Chapter 3, “Context of trade development in Vietnam in 2018” generalizes the word trade and its specific features in 2018, trade integration and Viet Nam’s large trade partners as well as the domestic conditions affecting the trade in Vietnam in 2018.
Chapter 4, “Current situation of Domestic trade development in 2018” generalizes the domestic market and trade in 2018, total volume of retailed goods and services revenue, presents the development of some major trade facilities, foreign direct investment attraction and trade franchising registration, State administration policies on trade.
Chapter 5, “Foreign Trade in Goods in Vietnam in 2018” presents a review on the import and export of Vietnam in 20018, goods imports and exports, mechanisms and policies on foreign trade management.
Chapter 6, “Trade protectionism and impacts on exports in Viet Nam” states views on trade protectionism, trade protectionism in some markets in the world in 2018, the impacts on exports of Viet Nam.
Chapter 7, “Economic – Trade Prospects and policy implications to Vietnam in 2019” generalizes the global economic prospects in 2019, trade protectionism trends and opportunities – challenges to Viet Nam, Viet Nam’s macro-economic prospects in 2019, some trade forecasts and prospects of Vietnam in 2019, some policy implications to Vietnam in 2019.
In the discussion, the session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Son – Rector; A/Prof. Dr. Doan Ke Bon – Faculty of Economics and International Business; A/Prof. Dr. Ha Van Su – Dean of Faculty of Economics-Law and A/Prof. Dr. Phan The Cong – Head of Department of Economics, experts including A/Prof. Dr. Le Xuan Ba – Former Director of Central Institute on Economic Management; A/Prof. Dr. Dinh Van Thanh – Former Director of Vietnam Institute of Industrial and Trade Policy and Strategy; and Dr. Luong Minh Huan - Vice Director – VCCI Enterprise Development Foundation appreciated the study by the research group for their hard work and scientific methodology. Besides, the specialists also recommended the research group to clarify some issues regarding data collection, contents, values, etc.
